Friendly Faces: Before and After School Club

Friendly Faces is overseen by SLT and the School Governors and is run by a small friendly team of six: Denine Hey, who is the manager; Cath Lavin, Jess Lunn, Katie Hawley and Kirsty Sykes are all play workers.

Friendly Faces is a provision, which provides childcare before and after school for pupils at Robin Hood Primary School. Breakfast/after-school club is located in the Friendly Faces building (near our Reception classrooms). The club operates during term time only, opening Monday to Friday from 7:30am – 8:50am and 3:00pm. – 6:00pm. The club is closed on bank holidays and school training days.

Friendly Faces is a payable service and costs £7.50 per breakfast session and £15 per after school session; there is a 10% sibling discount to the eldest sibling. The children are provided with a healthy breakfast each morning, consisting of a selection of cereals, toasts, bagels and fresh fruit, in order to promote healthy eating. The children are then taken to their own classes by Friendly Faces staff.

After school, the children are provided with home-cooked dinner, which is lovingly prepared by our Friendly Faces team. The menus are compliant with 2015 School Food Standards and has been approved by Leeds City Council Healthy Eating Advisor and Nutritionist. We can adapt the menus to meet pupil’s individual dietary needs or allergies. Please contact the Friendly Faces manager, Denine Hey, should this be necessary. Menus are based on a three-weekly rota and are cross-referenced with the school dinner menu to ensure variety. Menus can be found attached, so please take a look.

There are a number of indoor and outdoor activities, which the club provides for the children. We have access to either the Reception play area or the main playground which is used daily (weather and daylight permitting). The children have access to a range of equipment including footballs, skipping ropes, ping-pong tables, the boom box for dancing and a range of equipment to use their imagination when building obstacle courses.

We also offer “child-centred” sessions where children contribute to the planning of our timetables. We aim to deliver creative activities, linking to the interests of the children (please see the medium-term planning for this term’s project). For those children who are tired from their day at school, Friendly Faces offers quiet break-out corners, where they can play or read in a calm and homely environment.
